When local man Dave Jarvis was approaching his 50th birthday, he set himself a target: to complete a challenge every month for 12 months to raise money for the TouchPoint Christmas 2023 appeal. And he wanted to raise a lot of money: £1,200.
Fast forward 12 months and he has achieved all that – and more!
Across the year he has run and swum his way to success. Take a deep breath before reading this list – if our maths is correct Dave completed 20 events in total, and run over 300 kms, not including training!
- January: Battersea 10km Chase the Moon run
- February: Cancer Research Winter 10km – and a second Battersea 10km Chase the Moon run
- March: the Cambridge Half Marathon in just 2 hours 7 minutes – oh, and two other half marathons!
- April: The Cancer Research Swimathon – and another half marathon!
- May: The Nuclear Race (which was very hard and muddy)
- June: an epic 24-hour race, running one mile every hour, on the hour, for 24 hours – and the Henham 10km with his 11-year-old son.
- July: a one-mile outdoor swim, a 10k run and then another half marathon!
- August: another 1 mile open water swim.
- September: a 10k run
- October: High Lodge half marathon AND Chelmsford half marathon.
- November: Another marathon
-
December: One final half marathon for good measure!
The final total is now in, and Dave has raised a total of… (drum roll please):
£1,360!
Thank you doesn’t seem to cover it – but thank you, Dave! Your efforts will make a massive difference for so many local children this Christmas. All the money he has raised will go towards making sure that no local family has to choose between heating their homes and giving their children a gift this year.
